Wayne Hemingway MBE

Wayne HemingwayOne of the North West’s most celebrated designers, Wane Hemingway built up the globally acclaimed fashion label Red or Dead with wife Geraldine and was named British Fashion Council’s Streetstyle Designer of the Year Award for an unprecedented 3 consecutive years.  He later became a fashion tipster on breakfast television, and media commentator for all things design.

After 21 consecutive seasons on the catwalk at London Fashion Week, Wayne and Geraldine sold Red or Dead in 1999 and set up HemingwayDesign, which specialises in affordable and social design.

HemingwayDesign’s projects include the groundbreaking and award-winning Staiths South Bank, an 800 property mass market housing project on Tyneside for which HemingwayDesign have been involved in the master planning, architecture, landscaping and marketing; as well as recent design projects for English Partnerships, the Institute of Directors, Graham and Brown wallcoverings, Sky Plus, Wanadoo, Boddingtons, Sony, The Royal Mail and B&Q.

Wayne is the Chairman of Building for Life, a CABE (Commission for Architecture and The Built Environment) funded organization that promotes excellence in the quality of design of new housing. He is also a Professor in the Built Environment  department of Northumbria University, a Doctor of Design at Wolverhampton , Lancaster and Stafford, and a Fellow of Blackburn College. Wayne received an MBE in June 2006 in the Queen’s Birthday List.

Clive Grinyer BA (Hons), FCSD, FRSA

Clive  GrinyerClive Grinyer is Director of Customer Experience at Cisco’s IBSG consultancy group, who develop future visions of technology and customer experience for the world’s leading companies. He was previously Director of Design and Usability at Orange France Telecom where he was responsible for product and user interface design for Orange mobile and web services. He worked in the Orange ExploCentre in Paris developing the next generation of communication services across mobile, fixed line, pc, tv and the internet and developed for the first time a range of Orange branded mobile phones.

Clive has held senior design management roles in consultancy and corporate design. He worked for IDEO in the US and UK, was European head of product design for Fitch and was a founder of design company Tangerine with Jonathan Ive (now VP of design at Apple).

As Director of Design for Samsung he set up the award winning European design team in London, and was head of design for TAG McLaren Audio, a collaboration of the watch and Formula 1 racing brands. He went on to be Director of Design at the Design Council, creating the design demonstration projects where designers engage directly with UK manufacturing and technology companies.

Clive is a passionate advocate for design and design thinking, writes and speaks at conferences on design innovation and technology, and is the author of the book “Smart Design”.

Maxine J Horn

Maxine HornMaxine J Horn is CEO of British Design Innovation, a not for profit yet commercially focused organisation that brings together the ‘thinkers and linkers’ in the innovation space including strategic designers; brand and business owners; academics and dealmakers. These experts exchange knowledge and ethically and safely create, develop and trade Intellectual Property (IP).

Maxine created BDI’s Propositions into Profit programme – the first creative knowledge transfer network; and Open Innovation Challenge and the Innovation Bank. She is highly regarded amongst her peers as an innovative thinker and linker.

Additionally she is a member of the Innovation Support Network hosted by the Intellectual Property Office, a Board member of Trade Association Forum, founder member of UKTI Design Partners and consultant/advisor for many other design and innovation initiatives in both public and private sector.

Nick Miles

Nick MilesCommercial Director McD Marketing for DuPont Surfaces. Nick was born & bred in Oxford and has worked almost exclusively selling into the Construction Industry with Space planning and Office systems. After a period managing a Unilever Company in the Lower Gulf in the Middle East he transferred back to Bury St Edmunds in the UK working for Interface Heuga and then ESCO-DESSO.

15 years ago he moved to work with DuPont Corian – firstly with the UK Distributor and subsequently for the Manufacturer. His interests include his Grandchildren; supporting Oxford United (from afar) The Times Crossword; walking; and the Australian Red Wine Industry.
