Un-fold is a collective of six creative businesses working from the English Lake District. We each work in different design disciplines but are united by our approach; combining modern and traditional processes and materials, and advocating quality of design and craftsmanship.
Adam Atkinson launches Cherchbi at Design Show Liverpool 2008.
Cherchbi was borne out of fascination with Britain’s design and manufacturing heritage, and in reaction to the quality and environmental impact of mass produced goods.
All goods are designed and completely manufactured in Britain, some are crafted completely by hand, none are produced in volume. Each design displays craftsmanship and personality reflecting its individual inspirations.
Many raw materials are natural and locally sourced in an effort to minimise each item’s carbon footprint. The predominant materials - wool, leather, cotton, silk, brass and pewter - are sustainable, recyclable or biodegradable.
The Herdwyck Bag range forms the core of the collection and is complimented by a variety of accessories. Herdwyck Bags are made from 100% undyed Herdwick wool from the English Lake District, trimmed with vegetable tanned leather, solid English brass fittings and cotton lining.
Cherchbi launches its first collection in Autumn 2008. Taking much inspiration from the English Lake District; its 17th and 18th century wool and leather trade, John Ruskin and the Lakeland Arts Revival, native Herdwick sheep and many elements of personal family heritage.
Although the influences are often ancient, design and functionality are relevant to the 21st Century consumer.
