I am a ceramic artist making sculptural objects for indoor and outdoor spaces, often incorporating rusty metal. I have a very hands-on, experimental approach to design, always seeking to push my material and discover new processes.
Visits to junkyards have often inspired my work - collecting obsolete objects and examining their qualities. I try to capture details seen in the changing surfaces of man-made structures; the effects of nature, and essentially the effects of time on the artefacts of urban life. The pieces are hand made, unique, slab built forms using crank clay.
This year I was selected to exhibit in the acclaimed Setting Out exhibition at Contemporary Ceramics, London, where I also successfully applied for a travel bursary to research ceramics and the giant terracotta horses of Tamil Nadu, in Southern India.
