Emma completed the BA(hons) Jewellery and Silversmithing at the School of Jewellery, Birmingham, in 2005. Her work regularly uses colour as a primary focus and she enjoys working in non-precious materials that allow her to create brightly coloured and quirky pieces.
“I have always enjoyed working with recycled materials and found objects, I find it fascinating how almost anything can be given a second life as something completely different with just a little imagination. Colour is one of the strongest influences in my work and that was what drew me to the postage stamps, I was amazed at the colours that existed. I also enjoy the postmarks that are left behind, giving each piece a history and individuality.
I began working with anodised aluminium through a desire to create my own brightly coloured surface patterns. I enjoy the process of printing and dying the aluminium by hand and the irregularities that occur. More recently I have explored using the aluminium in 3D press-formed pieces.
I enjoy the transformation of ‘non precious’ materials into something that can be treasured.”
