MJMAN Dot Rowe

My background is in jewellery, textiles and computer arts. These varied interests have led to a fascination with surface decoration. I use a range of metals including gold, silver, titanium, brass, copper and the Japanese alloys Shakudo and Shibuichi, traditionally used as decoration on Samurai swords. I use several techniques to create surface pattern.

Mokumé-gane is a Japanese method of forming wood grain patterns on a metal surface. I also like to use forging to create interesting shapes for my jewellery before using the techniques of etching, inlay and oxidization to produce surface patterns. I have recently been experimenting with silver clay which has enabled me to produce some interesting textures and shapes for my work.
I love designing and take inspiration from an eclectic mix of sources. My current work has been inspired by natural forms from the ocean.
