Louise makes jewellery and textiles pieces, frequently involving found objects and vintage clothing. She uses photographic images and scraps of documents to convey a social story.
Influenced by the theory of family photography, narratives of identity, plus women’s work and domesticity, her pieces voice the expectations surrounding women, to be a ‘good girl’, to be ‘beautiful’ or a ‘loving mother’. She is interested in the maternal line and in skills, such as sewing, and objects, such as jewellery, which women pass on to women.
Louise’s new collection features shoe pieces and wall pieces with detachable jewellery. Her jewellery often reflects upon rules for good behaviour or features vintage fragments reworked into contemporary, but evocative pieces exploring memories and emotions.
Louise has received a David Canter Memorial Award - Textiles for researching ideas for a new collection and her visually rich, tactile storytelling style has been particularly appropriate to recent museum commissions.
